Reflection lesson 8 (Higher Thinking Skills through IT-Based Projects)
Higher
Thinking Skills through IT-Based Projects
It
is the students themselves who demonstrate higher thinking skills and
creativity through such activities searching for information, organizing and
synthesizing ideas, creating presentation, and the like. There are IT-based
projects conducive to develop higher thinking skills and creativity among
learners are; Resource-based projects were the teacher steps out the
traditional role of being a content excerpt and information provider, it let
the students find their won facts and information or the teacher may supply the
data or information; simple creations; guided hyper-media projects and web
based projects.
From
the time that I’ve entered in college, I’ve noticed that there are some of my
instructors who let us think a lot during our class, examination and other
learning activities in order for us to formulate the answers. There are some of
my instructor let us search an information about a certain topic and on the
next meeting he/she let us stand in front and ask a lot of information about
what I’ve research and s/he will add some information that we haven’t say.
It
is good for the students that the teacher let them think deeper during the
class because it is the way that the students can develop their higher thinking
skills not only on one subject but in all of their subjects. It can also use in
a real life situation for instance; one of the family member doesn’t know how
to cook a pasta and in order for him/her to do the task he/she surf to the net
the procedure on how to cook and think or analyze what is being written on the monitor.
Higher
order thinking skill is one of the most important things that the student
should develop and the teacher is one of the instruments that would help them
to achieve those things. The first thing that the teacher can help them to
develop those thinking skills is to let the students surf through the net about
the certain topic and should answer the following questions and it would
require the students to analyze what they have search and also the questions.
Reflection lesson 7(IT Higher Thinking Skills and Creatvity)
IT
for Higher Thinking Skills and Creativity
In
the traditional information absorption model of teaching, the teacher organizes
and presents information to student-learners. The teaching approach has been
proven successful for achieving learning outcomes following the lower end of
Bloom’s taxonomy: knowledge, comprehension and application are concerned. Today,
students are expected to be not only cognitive but also flexible, analytical
and creative. To define higher level thinking skills and creativity, we may
adopt a framework that is a helpful synthesis of many models and definition on
the subject matter.
As
what I have notice during our class, our teacher not only focused on one specific
skill of the student but all of our thinking skills and psychomotor skill was
being started to developed in just one session of our subject. For example, on
our TLE class our teacher show us a finished product of flower which is being
made from the corn husk and the student will analyzed on what was the first
step that they are going to do to imitate the flower that the teacher was being
presented.
To
let the students do and learn about a certain thing is a good start that they
can develop their independency in learning and to remove some load of the
teacher in teaching or spoon feeding the lesson to the students. It is also
helpful for the students to develop their thinking skills because the teacher
is not always on their side to guide them the on how to do a certain task that
the students should need to do.
What
we have learned or observed from our previous class can be apply in our future
classroom setting as future teachers, but we can’t apply it on the same way but
we need to furnish some part on the certain activity that should attract the
interest of the students.
Reflection lesson 6(IT Enters a New Learning Environment)
IT
Enters a New Learning Environment
It
is most helpful to see useful models of school learning that is ideal to
achieving instructional goals through preferred application of educational
technology. This models are meaningful learning, discover learning, generative
learning and constructivism. In meaningful learning process the learner is
encouraged to recognize relevant personal experiences while the discovery
learning let the students perform tasks
to uncover what is to be learned were new ideas and new decisions are generated
in the learning process. The effective teachers’ best interact with students in
innovative learning activities, while integrating technology to the
teaching-learning process.
One
of my teachers when I was still in high school let us identify what was the
pictures is all about that he was being presented to us, after that he let us
choose one picture among the pictures that he presented to us and do the hands
on activity. The activity is all about we are going to draw the picture in the
computer and it should be the same on the picture that we’ve choose and we are
going to put a label on the image that we draw.
It
is good when a teacher uses some technology in teaching the topic to the
students because it would help them to understand more about the topic for
instance the teacher presented the lesson through power point presentation and
the visual learners can understand more the lesson.
Reflection lesson 5(State-of-the-Art ET Application Practices)
State-of-the-Art
ET Application Practices
Looking
through progressive state policies that support technology-in-education and
other new developments in pedagogical practice, and the greater needs for the
educators today is to acquire not only in computer literacy but also in
competence. The contribution of computer to pedagogy makes up for “good
instruction.” Teacher must acquire or improve on their computer skills, as well
as their “computer-in-the-classroom” skill.
Our school invested the ted to the
new technology that can be used for a longer time and the teacher who would teach
us on our computer subject has a good background about computer. This teacher
has the capability to inspect and restore the problem of the computer during
the time that it malfunctions.
Teachers who are competent in terms
of computer is an effective one in teaching computer subject because he/she has
the capacity to answer all of the question/clarification of the students about
the computer and also their subject. The teacher will not only matter in
learning but also in investing technology hardware/software.
reflection lesson 3(Educational Technology in the Asia Pacific region)
Educational
Technology in the Asia Pacific Region
To provide confidence to educators
that they are taking the right steps in adopting technology in education, it is
good to know that during last few years, progressive countries in the Asia
Pacific region have formulated state policies and strategies to infuse
technology in schools. In five progressive state/city, namely New Zealand,
Australia, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong has different strategies for ICT
policies for their schools, like New Zealand they use the ICT to support their
curriculum; Australia focused on the IT initiative.
Without computer and internet
connection does not mean that you can’t attain what you want to be, for it is
not the hindrance in pursuing the goal of every individual. Students, who
belong to the unprogressive place like us, still learned how to use the
computer in doing the school requirements. During our IT21 class there are 3
students who would share to use the 1 computer and it does not have an internet
connection and it is full of virus, but still our teacher manage as well that
everyone of us can learn how to use the computer.
The students who belonged to the progressive
state/city are very lucky because they will not bother to go the internet café and
do the surfing for the school requirements, for their government is the one who
provided their needs. They are more advanced about the new information and it
is easy for them to do their study requirements because they can just simply
surf it in through the internet to gather more information.
In our present generation the presence
of the computer and internet connection is very important not only in school
but also in office or home. Even if the computer is not enough for the number
of the students the teacher should know how to manage them, so that all of the
students should be able to learn what is intended to be taught.
Reflection lesson 4(Basic Concepts on Integrating Technology in Instruction)
Basic
Concepts on Integrating Technology in Instruction
There
no lingering issue on how educational technology is integrated in the teaching
learning process. This is due to the fact that the mere use of computer does
not mean technology has already been integrated in instruction. There is no
integrative process if for instance the teacher makes students play computer
games to give them a rest period during classes.
When
our teacher let us take some rest from our class s/he use the some computer
games which is related to our topic just like puzzle, bookworm, Bonnie’s
bookstore and reader’s digest super words, because this games would help us to
widen our vocabulary. In taking an English subject it is very important for us
as a student to have a lot of vocabulary on our mind because we meet different
unfamiliar words when we read a certain selection.
It
is good that the teacher let the students play an educational computer games
because they already integrate the technology in learning and the students can
develop their skills in thinking or formulate different kinds of words based on
the computer game that the teacher let them to play. Through the computer game
the students can recall the meaning of the words that they met during the game
because it was being presented creatively.
All
of the computer games that we learned from our class are very useful because we
can apply it during the motivation for the new lesson of the class because it
is the very first thing that the students can be interested in listening or to
do the different task during the discussion of the topic, it is not only useful
in motivation but also in evaluation.
Reflection lesson 1(A Review of Educational Technology 1)
A
Review of Educational Technology 1
The
Educational technology 1 (ET-1) course has truly paved the way for the learner
to become aware, appreciative and equipped to use the educational technology
tools ranging from traditional to modern educational media. There are 4 phases
showed in application of educational technology in teaching-and-learning; a.)
setting of learning objectives b.) designing specific learning experiences c.)
evaluating the effectiveness of the learning experiences vis-à-vis the learning
objectives d.) revision as needed of the whole teaching-learning process.
Educational technology 1 fittingly refined the distinction between educational
technology and other concepts such as instructional technology, educational
media and audiovisual aids.
Based
on my experience as a former learner of educational technology 1 (ET-1) our
instructor let us did the different hands-on activities such as web based; quiz
maker and many more, which would help us on our future. It is good for us that
our instructor let us those kinds of activities.
What we have learned from our Educational
Technology 1 (ET-1) is one of our advantages as future educators for we already
had an idea on how to use the technology on our class. Especially that our generations
nowadays are more high tech than before and most of the students can afford the
technology that would help them in learning.
As
a future teacher it is good for us that we already have a background on how to
do the online quiz, web based presentation and etc. because there are some
circumstances that we can’t avoid for instance the teacher got a sore throat
and she really needs to tackle the certain topic to his/her students and she/he
will be going to use the web based presentation were the students can focused
their attention to the presentation which is being presented by the teacher.
